Got a sports and fitness blog, but a little stumped on what to write about? Today on the blog I am giving you a handy list of sports and fitness blog post ideas.
So, a few days ago I posted a blog on travel blog post topic ideas and on seeing this, one of my fitness clients asked me for help with some ideas for their own blog. Now while they got some SEO and audience specific content ideas I thought it made sense to offer some information to a wider audience, because whilst we don’t want to be posting exactly the same content as everyone else, there is some value in covering base topics that our readers and potential customers most want to hear about. Look at the list below and think about how you can tweak the topic ideas to fit your specific audience, talking to them in their language.
Don’t forget to scroll to the end where I will also have some tips on how to use your content to get featured in Google’s snippets and boost your website traffic.

How to format blog content for inclusion in Google featured snippets
I recently wrote an article on what you need to understand about Google snippets and we discovered together the 4 main types of Google featured snippet I think it is worth trying to rank for. These are the numbered list, the bullet list, the definition, and the chart.
You can see in that very blog post the areas I created for snippet use. These is a definition at the top of the page, when introducing the subject of Google’s featured snippets. I also included a shareable image explaining the concept, which is great for Google (and for social media sharing).
I included video, which is a great alternative snippet Google love to include in search results. My video again was about definition, but with a specific subtopic.
And finally, I also included a list of content ideas for snippets, using a numbered list later in the post.
Each of my snippet formats followed the basics of the concept of each snippet type and covered a different area of explanation in my blog post.
Now you do not need to include lots of different snippet attempts in your blog post, but I would pick at least one for every post… the one that most fits your content topic. In this very post you can see I have gone for a numbered list.
If you are including a definition, then have it at the top of your blog post under a H2 descriptive title, so that it is clearly crawlable and recognisable for Google. This helps introduce your content topic to teh reader, which Google reads as user friendly, and is a big bonus in ranking.
If you are including a list or a chart again pop this under a H2 descriptive title and put that with a relevant part of your content. Make sure your story flows across the piece, so that readability does not affect Google’s likeliness to rank you higher.
This simple formatting technique helps Google crawl your content and understand what it can draw as a possible featured snippet in search results and secondly it is actually more helpful to your reader, especially those who choose to scan read (which is always far more than you’d think).
