I don’t often write press releases, but I wanted to deliver some backlinks when a retainer client asked. Here’s how that project went.

The brief and context

“Can you get us some backlinks with the press?”

My client has a standing in the Middle East, so news is always going to attract some attention. However, they don’t usually update the press; instead, they blog about their news. It was my task to see if I could create some press in a different way. My thoughts went to creating a press release.

Results

We sent out the release to three contacts and obtained three good backlinks.

Next steps

While we had success this time, there is no indication we’d have the same luck next time. I aim to widen our circle of PR contacts and work on relationships while refining releases and my email cover to gain a spread of further backlinks when we need them.
